My Morning Routine
The morning is my absolute favorite time of day. During the week I wake up between 5am and 5:15am and take about 2.5 hours to relax, focus on myself and set the tone for the rest of my day. It calms and centers me to have this time every morning. I definitely consider myself a morning person so waking up early and having a nice, long morning routine does come rather naturally to me. But even if you aren’t a “morning person” you still need a morning routine. Trust me, waking up, hitting snooze two or three times, grabbing a protein bar and rushing out the door is not an ideal – or even ok – way to start your day.
So, I thought I’d share my morning routine with you and perhaps if you do not have one for yourself already, you may find some inspiration here.
Like I said, I wake up around 5am during the week. When my alarm goes off, I get right out of bed. DO NOT HIT SNOOZE. I know it can be tempting, but waking up, dozing off for 10 minutes, waking up again and going back and forth is an awful way to wake up and usually leaves most people groggy and cranky. When I’m up, I’m up. I head into the bathroom and take care of my skin. I have a rather thorough skin regiment at night so in the morning I just splash some cool water on my face or spray my face with rose water then use my favorite Rose Quartz Facial Roller to de-puff my face and roll away unwanted toxins for about 5 minutes. If you don’t have a facial roller, you need to get one stat! (I'll be doing a post on the benefits soon, stay tuned). Afterward, I just swipe my face with toner then use a Vitamin C & E serum, little bit of moisturizer and finish it all of with sunscreen (NEVER, ever forget to put on sunscreen). Now that my face is cleaned, de-puffed and moisturized I’m ready for my favorite part of my morning… coffee!!
I head into the kitchen and while my Nespresso machine is handling my cup o’ Joe, I take a tablespoon of my Probiotic Coconut Water and my multi-vitamin. When my coffee is ready, I add half-and-half, cinnamon and one scoop of Vital Proteins Collagen Protein Powder then shake it all up and grab my Adora calcium supplement (which is basically just an excuse to eat chocolate in the morning) before heading back into my bed to enjoy my coffee and peruse the internet. This part of my morning is really just my “me time” – I love watching YouTube videos, looking thorough Pinterest and just enjoying some quiet time. Around 6:15am I will open up my Spotify and dance around a bit while I brush my teeth, use my tongue scraper (I’m obsessed!), put on some makeup, wash my dishes and then make my bed and throw on some sweats and sneakers. I have a 5-year-old Yorkie who stays at home all day while I’m at work so it’s very important to me that he gets to go for a 2 mile walk everyday, rain or shine, no excuses. And, I’m not going to lie, I love getting some fresh air and moving my body before I have to head to work where I sit at a desk for the most of the day.
After our walk, I just feed my dog and change into my work clothes. Before I grab my bag and head out the door I do take a moment to review my to-do list and goals for the day, which for me includes some sort of positive affirmation as well. And with that, I'm off to work feeling calm, focused and energized.
