My Top 10 Fav Healthy(ish) Treats
Who else can relate to this?
I’ll be the first to admit that I have a sweet tooth. I love me some chocolate and it’s hard for me to pass up sugary treats. On the other hand, I like to eat healthy and wear crop tops so... I can’t eat all the treats I want, ya know? But that doesn’t mean that I completely avoid dessert. Hell no! In fact, I eat a sweet treat every single night of the week because I’m all about living my best life. The secret? I just pick the better options (i.e. things with better ingredients) and I definitely pay attention to serving sizes. Eating one or two cookies? I’d say that’s fine. Eating an entire box of cookies? Yeah, that may not be the best idea boo. Portion control is pretty key.
So, here we go.
These are my top 10 picks in no particular order for healthy(ish) treats! And just a heads up, the list is pretty chocolate-centric so if you’re not a chocolate lover (*gasp*) sorry… I do have a few that aren’t chocolate.
Better Bites Cake Balls. Now you can have your cake and eat it, too – that is you can have gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free, nut-free, soy-free cake. And it’s only 130-140 calories (I really don’t know how they do it… witchcraft, maybe?) But in all seriousness, these cake balls are absolutely amazing and I am totally the person at Whole Foods stocking up on these bad boys because they seem to be hard to find. They are rich, moist and taste oh so decadent. I like the double chocolate flavor personally, but the vanilla is a close second. Pro-tip: these come refrigerated, but taste best when enjoyed at room temperature.
Go Raw Super Dark Chocolate. These chocolate squares are made with just two ingredients – cacao and agave. For only 32 calories per piece they are pretty much the perfect little treat to curb any sweet craving. I am not going to lie to you, they definitely don’t taste like a candy bar – because they aren’t loaded with sugar and crap – but they are super smooth and just melt in your mouth. Psst.. these also make great a afternoon treat with a cup of coffee.
Four Sigmatic’s Mushroom Hot Cacao with Reishi. These are basically guilt-free hot chocolate mixes. They come in a box as individual packets, and you just one open and add it to hot water or milk. I like to use cashew milk and add a little honey for sweetness. They’re organic, vegan and paleo and a great bedtime snack because reishi has actually been shown to help support sleep and stress. How delightful is that?
Unreal Dark Chocolate Almond Butter Cups. I go kind of nuts for these. They are much better tasting than a REESE’S, and the ingredient list is waaaay better so it’s a win-win for sure. Unreal has other yummy products too like peanut butter cups and chocolate gems (i.e. M&M knock-offs).
Hail Merry Cookie Dough Bites. If you don’t know, now you know. OMG these bites are so freaking good. They are made with maple syrup, almond flour, shredded coconut, chocolate chips, coconut oil, vanilla and Celtic sea salt and they taste like little balls of cookie dough crack. Try them now, thank me later.
Popcorn. Ya really can’t go wrong with a big ol' bowl of popcorn. It’s always a satisfying (and easy) night-time snack. I like to make my own with my popcorn maker - because I'm fancy like that, and it's much more cost effective - and then I add a little coconut oil and some Himalayan pink sea salt. If you want to jazz it up (my friend introduced me to this so I can’t take all of the credit), but try drizzling some honey on top, add a few shakes of cinnamon and mix it up. Holy yum!
Graham crackers. Growing up my mom always bought graham crackers so eating these makes me feel nostalgic. And I’d say graham crackers seem to be an underrated snack, but they’re so yummy and I like that they are sweet but not too sweet, ya know? I don’t have a favorite brand per se, but I usually opt for Annie’s or another natural brand I can find.
Goodpop Organic Freezer Pops. You can’t go wrong with a nice refreshing frozen pop, especially in the summer. If you walk down the freezer aisle there are plenty of choices, but I try to find one without all the artificial shit added, so Goodpop is a good choice to me! They have a whole slew of flavors but my favs are the Coldbrew Coffee, Banana Cinnamon and Strawberry Lemonade.
Laura’s Wholesome Junk Cranberry Breakfast Bite-lettes. These are the only cookies I buy. I like that they look, smell and taste homemade (they’re also vegan if that’s important to you). Plus they’re marketed as “breakfast” cookies and I’m all about that. Guess you can eat these any time of day.
Hu chocolate. When I first saw the price tag on these guys my jaw dropped. $7 for a bar of chocolate?! But then I bought one anyways and ate it and loved and now it’s on my list of favorite treats so guess the jokes on me. I gotta admit though, these bars are the real deal and hands down the best chocolate bar I’ve ever bought. Get the cashew butter flavor and you won’t be disappointed. They are pretty rich, so one or two squares is all I need.
What are you favorite treats to enjoy?
