In Honor of 4/20... Trying out CBD-Infused Skincare Products (PROMO CODE INSIDE)
I live in Colorado so it seemed very appropriate to celebrate 4/20, and since I love me some skincare, I decided what better way to celebrate than by trying out some CBD-infused face and body products. Before I get into the products themselves, I wanted to share a little about what CBD is and why it’s such a hot ingredient in the wellness world right now. CBD, which is short for cannabidiol, is a chemical compound from the cannabis plant. It's a naturally occurring substance that's used in products such as oils and edibles to create a feeling of relaxation and calmness. And no, it’s not a psychoactive its cousin, THC. Or in other words, you are not going to get high from CBD. Most people are aware that CBD is being used in pain-relief products, but it can also combat acne other skin conditions. How? Well, CBD has the ability to help calm skin, particularly skin that’s acne-prone. And because acne is an inflammatory condition, CBD’s soothing properties may help diminish breakouts and reduce redness. Some research also suggests that CBD has the potential to decrease oil production and helps offset other triggers of acne. CBD oil also has antioxidant properties, so it may help lessen the visible signs of aging skin like wrinkles and skin dullness.
I recently received some products from a local company, Mox Mind + Body Care, which makes highly concentrated products that include CBD. After seeing CBD included in more and more skin and body products I was definitely intrigued. They sent me their Facial Cleaner, Facial Serum, Skin Restore (i.e. a multi-action balm) and a Muscle Roller. And I loved them all!
Facial Cleaner First off, this stuff has a really amazing, strong peppermint smell, which is so refreshing and energizing especially when you use it in the morning. It contains Salicylic Acid, which is great for keeping your pores clean and acne at bay, and also gently exfoliates and helps slough off dead skin. It can be drying, so I would say use this once per day rather than twice. It’s a creamy texture rather than a gel, so it doesn’t lather up very much, but felt really nice on my skin. I felt clean, invorgated and also moisturized after using it.
Facial Serum This was my fav product of the bunch, maybe because I’m a sucker for serums. This one is a vitamin powerhouse and filled with so much good stuff. I felt like my skin just drank it all up. It contains Vitamins A, C, D, E, K along CBD and plant extracts like chamomile and licorice. It’s a beautiful gold color, so I felt like I was putting liquid gold on my face - which I’m into and the very faint herbal smell was relaxing. This left my face feeling so hydrated, plump and healthy. What’s not to like?
Skin Restore This multi-purpose balm can be used on face, lips, hands, elbows, knees and feet to restore dry skin. It can even be applied to cuts, scrapes and burns - wow! I tried it on my face and a little definitely went a long way. I liked it at night to keep my skin hydrated, but TBH it didn’t wear well under makeup so I wasn’t a huge fan of using it during the day. I also tried it on my elbows, lips and hands and it left my skin super soft without being greasy. Pro tip: this works better if you apply to damp skin and massage in. Also, I actually happened to burn my hand using my electric teapot (don’t ask) and I can definitely confirm this works well on burns… so if you’re accident prone like me this is great to have on hand.
Muscle Roller Probably the item I was most excited to try, this muscle roller looks like a little essential oil roller with Hempseed Oil, Wintergreen Oil, Essential Oil of Eucalyptus Menthol, Essential Oil of Peppermint, CBD Isolate and Essential Oil of Rosemary. It smells like eucalyptus, which is one of my favorite scents (my mom always gave me Vicks as a kid so I think it’s nostalgic, maybe?). This is totally travel-sized so super easy to throw in a purse or bag and take with you wherever.
Overall, I was definitely impressed with all four products. My favorites were the Facial Serum and Muscle Roller. I will be honest and say that while the products and ingredients were awesome and knocked it out of the park, I just am not feeling the packaging. I don’t know if it’s just me (and my marketing background), but the blue packaging coupled with the boxy font feels a little masculine. But, it’s what’s inside that matters (duh) and the ingredients and formulations were on point so I can’t be disappointed.
