Beauty Hacks Every Girl Should Know
Who doesn’t appreciate a good hack? You know, those little tried-and-true tricks that save us time (maybe save us some cash money) and make our lives a little easier. I’m all about a good hack and the only thing better than knowing a hack is sharing a hack… because sharing is caring, right? So here are my go-to hacks that I swear by. And not to be dramatic, but some of these are not only good, they’re life-changing. Enjoy!
Use dry shampoo AT NIGHT! If you only use dry shampoo in the morning, girl you are doing it wrong. The absolute best time to use dry shampoo is before bed. Personally, I only wash my hair two times a week, and I can usually get away with only using dry shampoo once or twice a week (basically right before I have to wash it). I just spray my roots with dry shampoo, rub it through as usual, throw my hair up and go to bed. While I get my beauty sleep, the product absorbs the oils in my hair, and in the morning I just brush it out and I’m good-to-go.
Sleep with your hair in a bun. The “sleep bun” has gained some popularity in recent years, and for good reason! If you want to prolong a blow out, curls or just keep your hair cleaner, longer then you need to sleep with a bun. This one is pretty self explanatory. Just flip your head over, gather your hair into a ponytail, twist it into a bun and secure. I like to use a Jaw Clip or a scrunchie (elastic hair ties not recommended since they can leave a bump and damage your hair).
Use Vaseline as makeup remover. My mom taught me this one so I think it’s safe to say this is an oldie but a goodie. Instead of buying makeup remover or makeup wipes, just grab some Vaseline. I usually use it as an eye makeup remover or to take off lipstick. All you do is take a small amount on your fingers and massage into the area and watch as your makeup magically comes off. Wipe off the Vaseline with a Kleenex or towel and follow with your regular skincare routine.
Put your lipliner on AFTER your lipstick. Not only does this make it way easier to see exactly where you'll need to line, but when your lipstick starts to fade away, it will fade with your liner which means you won’t have to worry being left with a ring around your lips.
Ice away blemishes. When we see a dreaded pimple pop up, I think a lot of us want to a) pop it or b) apply heat in the form of steam or hot water. Both of these are major no-nos. If you want to quickly get rid of a blemish, ice is your best friend. Applying ice right when you notice the first signs of a pimple can help reduce any swelling and shrink the spot, which, in turn, can shorten the lifespan of the zit and speed up healing. Plus, icing a blemish can decrease redness and reduce pain. I like to keep a face roller in the freezer and roll my whole face for about two minutes each night, but wrapping ice cubes in a washcloth can also work.
Lock in moisture with socks and gloves. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, there is nothing sexy about dry, scaly skin. One of the best times to moisturize is before bed so the product can stay on as long as possible and really soak in. I like to apply a thick layer of lotion on my feet and hands, and then slide into some cozy socks and a pair of gloves so the lotion can fully penetrate.
When it comes to blades, less is more. I know it’s tempting to buy razors with five or more blades because more blades somehow means more hair removal, right? Wrong! A single or double blade razor will be your best friend and absolutely get the job done. When you use razors with multiple blades all you’re really doing is drying out and irritating your skin and making yourself more prone to nicks and ingrown hairs. This is especially true for shaving more sensitive areas such as underarms and your bikini area.
