2018 Favorites: Best Fashion Buys
I love seeing what products other people like, so I thought it would be fun to do a 2018 Favorites series sharing my top picks for the year. I’ll be sharing fashion favs (right here!), skincare, haircare, makeup, food, home goods and misc items. Hope you enjoy!
Rails Knox Star-Print Denim Jacket (sold out)
Saying I love denim jackets would be an understatement. I think I’m obsessed. Seriously. I own six and my collection seems to keep growing. But this jacket is hands down my favorite. It’s a light wash denim with dark wash stars so when I wear it with jeans - because denim on denim is a yes in my book - it’s easy to mix with any wash. It’s also a really nice fit - it hits right at my hip, it’s not too tight, but isn’t oversized either and the sleeves are loose enough to roll and scrunch up a bit. If you’re looking for a jean jacket I definitely recommend one that is simple enough to count as a basic, but still has some detailing to make it feel special. Other jean jackets I love: The Carina Jacket, Alyssa Crystal Denim Jacket, Star Denim Jacket, Oversized Sherpa Trucker Jacket, Plaid Lined Sherpa Trucker Jacket.
Alice & Olivia Clarine Wrap Midi Dress in White
I bought this dress last spring after falling in love with it at the Alice + Olivia store in LA. The white embroidered fabric is so chic and the oversized faux wrap-dress design with a v-neck is incredibly flattering. Girl, if you don’t own a wrap-dress or faux wrap-dress, add that to your list! This one is also easy to dress up with a pair of strappy sandals, and even looks great dressed down with sneakers and a cute denim or leather jacket. White dresses are a closet must have for spring and summer - they are easy to wear, always look stylish and have such a sexy, boho vibe. Other white dresses I love: Majorca Ruffle Tier Maxi Dress, Mishell Dress, Willow Wrap Dress, Saint Angel Maxi Prairie Dress, Bryce Maxi Dress.
Vans Classic Slip-On Sneaker in Black White Checker
I think it’s safe to say that 2018 was the year of the sneakers, and I think the trend will continue this year as well. Personally, I’m a Vans girl and I’ve been repurchasing this same shoes for a few years now. I love a good pair of slip-ons since they’re easy to throw on, and they aren’t bulky looking so they look great not only with jeans or shorts, but also skirts and dresses, too. Cute sneakers just give a nice laid-back, casual vibe to any outfit. Other sneakers I love: Old Skool Sneaker, Superstar Sneaker, Superga Cotu Sneaker, P448 Spacelow Sneaker.
AGOLDE Riley High Rise Straight Crop Jeans
These are the quintessential high-rise, straight leg, mom/girlfriend jeans. At 5’3, I’m on the more petite side so I love that these have a relaxed, looser fit but aren’t so baggy that I lose my shape. They’re non-stretch denim so they definitely are tight and need to be “broken-in” a bit, but I promise they will loosen up. I’m usually a size 24 and I have these in a 23 so I recommend sizing down. Other mom jeans I love: Citizens of Humanity Liya High Rise Classic, GRLFRND Helena High-Rise Straight, rag & bone/JEAN Straight Jean, Topshop Straight Leg Jeans.
Current/Elliott The High Waist Stiletto Jeans
I probably end up wearing these pants more than anything else I own. The high-rise waist and ankle-skimming legs are extremely flattering, they are tight fitting but super soft and are very comfortable. They don’t stretch out and the color doesn’t fade. You can definitely wear ‘em in an office setting with heels and a blouse or blazer, but they’re also the perfect jeans to wear on the weekends with a cute T and sneakers. Trust me, of all the black jeans I’ve owned these ones are the best. Other black jeans I love: Topshop Leigh Jeans, rag & bone/JEAN High Rise Skinny in Black, J Brand 620 Mid Rise Super Skinny in Black, Free People High Rise Long And Lean Jean in Black, AGOLDE Roxanne Skinny.
Vince Stretch Leggings
I’ve talked about these leggings on the blog before so it should come as no surprise they landed a spot on this list. Every girl loves a good pair of leggings and these ones are the real deal because they are actually a thick, high-quality pair that looks much more put together than any others I’ve seen. Yes, they’re leggings, but they almost qualify as a pair of black pants. I love the seam that runs down the back of the leg too, it just adds a really nice subtle detail to the pants. If you’re gonna wear leggings to any place other than the gym, be sure they are a nice pair. Other leggings I love: Vince Stretch Suede Split Hem Cropped Leggings, Splendid Downtown Faux Leather Leggings, Current/Elliott The Sun Track Pant, NBD Angel High Waist Legging, MILLY Textured Cheetah Knit Legging.
Rebecca Minkoff Mika Mules (in white)
The classic Gucci slides seemed to set the tone for easy-to-wear slip ons last year, and after scouring the mall and online stores I finally found the perfect pair of slides (which is why I now own these bad boys in white leather AND red suede). These shoes give you the elegance of loafers mixed with the casual vibe of a slide, and the micro heel adds a sense of polish and gives me just a smidge of height. Slides/mules are a closet essential, and white shoes are awesome. Other slides I love: Rebecca Minkoff Coretta Flat, No. 21 Knot Slide, Sam Edelman Linnie Mules, Madewell The Frances Loafer Mule in Leather, Gucci Princetown Loafer Mule.
Rebecca Minkoff Bree Belt Bag (in black)
Not only are fanny packs insanely convenient, they are actually super cute and very chic, too. I love the simplicity of this one, which lends itself to day or night looks. I love that you can wear this cross body, around your waist or over the shoulder. The size is another huge plus - you can totally fit a wallet, phone, keys, makeup products and more in this bag but it’s still small and compact. Other belt bags I love: Rebecca Minkoff Edie Sling, rag & bone Elliot Fanny Pack, Rebecca Minkoff Blythe Pebbled Belt Bag, McQ - Alexander McQueen Waist Pack.
Crescent & Constellation Necklace from Wanderlust + Co.
Simple, gold necklaces are always a good idea and while I think we can all agree the layered look is great, sometimes it’s hard to find the right necklaces to wear together (and mine always get tangled, anyone else have that issue?). I love that this necklace gives you the layered look without the hassle. Plus, the shorter chain with stars is such a delicate compliment to the single crescent chain. And at $50, I’d say it’s a great price for such a wearable piece. Other layered necklaces I love: Ethereal Light Layered Necklace, Nova Necklace, Layered Cross Necklace, Orion Capricorn Necklace, Crescent Full Moon Double Necklace.
Current/Elliott The Workwear Peplum Tank (sold out)
This plaid, linen-blend tank with adjustable straps was one of my go-to’s this year. It’s just a really easy shirt to throw on with jeans, high-waisted black pants or even cut-off shorts. I’ve worn it out with the girls, to the office or on a date. It’s comfy and stylish - definitely a win-win. Cute tank tops that have some nicer detailing (like the peplum hem, buttons and adjustable straps) are great staples because they layer well with sweaters and jackets and still look put together. Other tank tops I love: The Button Cami Blouse, Aiko Cami, Jane Tank, The Racer Charmeuse Cami, Bobbi Star Crop Tank, Maria Top.
