The 10 Best Items at Trader Joe's
Cauliflower Gnocchi The first time I bought this I followed the cooking directions on the back of the bag and was horribly disappointed and swore I’d never buy them again. But after learning the proper cooking technique from others online (see, the internet is good for something) I am now obsessed and always have at least two bags in my freezer. Pro tip: either pan-fry these in a little oil until brown and toasty OR put them on a baking sheet and roast for about 20 minutes, or until golden brown, stirring halfway through. I like them served with marinara sauce and a little parmesan. Makes a super fast, easy, healthy meal!
Cauliflower Pizza Crust TJ sells both a plain cauliflower pizza crust as well as one that is already topped with cheese and veggies. I think both are delicious, but I usually opt for the plain one so I can control the toppings. I’ve tried cauliflower pizza crust from a number of other stores and this one is definitely the best. The texture is super close to a traditional crust, but healthier.
Thai Tea Mini Mochi I always like to have some healthy-ish sweet treats on hand because I have a major sweet tooth. You can have 6 of these for 210 calories, but I usually just have 2. They are the perfect combo of sweet and creamy, plus they’re actually made with coconut milk instead of the traditional sweetened condensed milk so they are dairy-free.
(Frozen) Organic Riced Cauliflower Clearly I’m a cauliflower fan, and this is kind of the OG cauliflower item. If you’ve never had riced cauliflower you are definitely missing out. I eat this stuff several times a week - it’s fast, easy and goes great with lots of different dishes, sauces and toppings. My fav ways to eat this is either stir fried in a little bit of coconut oil and then either add more veggies, soy sauce and a scrambled egg for a faux fried rice or just stir fry it and add a little butter, garlic and nutritional yeast. It’s also really yummy with taco seasoning or with salsa stirred in for a Mexican-type dish. TJ also sells fresh riced cauliflower, but I find it way more convenient to just keep a few bags of this in the freezer so I don’t have to worry about it going bad. Their Riced Cauliflower Stir Fry is also great!
Everything But the Bagel Sesame Seasoning Blend Pretty sure everyone on Instagram is in love with this seasoning and for good reason. It’s so damn good and adds such great flavor to things. I love to top a rice cake with some mashed avocado and sprinkle this on top, or sprinkle it on eggs. It’s delicious!
Raw Almond Butter (creamy) This is the best almond butter I’ve found and I love that it’s raw and only made with almonds. It’s the perfect creamy, drippy consistency and once you stir in the oil that separates it actually stays really well combined (unlike so many other natural nut butters that have that annoying separation problem).
Dark Chocolate Almond Butter Cups OMFG these are my current favorite thing. I love peanut butter cups, but prefer not to eat peanut butter and I’m definitely a dark chocolate fan more so than milk, so these are my ideal treat. The almond butter is so super creamy and tastes super fresh, unlike Reese’s or some other candies where the peanut butter kinda dries out, if you know what I mean. If you see these, definitely try them out. You won’t be disappointed.
(Frozen) Mango Chunks I don’t know if it’s weird to snack on frozen mango, but I do it. And TJ’s frozen mangos are my go-to. They are kind of soft and you can bite into them really easily while they are frozen, unlike some other ones I’ve tried that have been too hard and icy. These are also always super ripe - there’s nothing more frustrating than buying frozen fruit that was frozen when it wasn’t ripe. Other than snacking on these plain (and still frozen), they are also great if you pop ‘em in the microwave for 30 seconds. Mmmm so good!
Calimyrna Figs These are great to snack on. I love to have 2 or 3 with a little bit of the raw almond butter smeared on them. Super good (and good source of fiber, too!)
Organic Air Popped Popcorn Popcorn is such a classic snack and when you buy or make it air popped, it’s actually very low calorie and a healthy treat. TJ’s air popped popcorn is super light and fluffy. I love it plain but if i’m feeling extra I’ll spray a little coconut oil on it and add a drizzle of honey and cinnamon, or do oil, Himalayan pink salt and nutritional yeast.
